Research
I work at the intersection of autobiography, narrative theory, and popular culture. My projects examine how personal stories challenge dominant cultural narratives, from celebrity biopics and social media to 19th-century travel writing and criminal narratives. I’m interested in forms that fall outside traditional literary canons: gossip, scandal, memoir, and other “lowbrow” genres that reveal social truths about race, class, gender, and power.
Teaching
I teach courses in American literature, genre studies, and cultural studies. My approach emphasizes close reading, critical analysis, and helping students articulate how texts operate on structural, rhetorical, and ideological registers. I design assignments that let students choose their own texts and apply course frameworks, prioritizing analytical skill over reinforcing literary hierarchies.
Instructional Design
I design learning experiences that challenge people intellectually, not logistically. I’ve worked as a project manager and administrator in higher education and nonprofit organizations, coordinating learning programs, curriculum development, and compliance documentation. My expertise includes backward design, learning management systems, information architecture, and developing templates and self-guided resources that support diverse learners.
